Project Spotlight: Our Lady of Lourdes – West Islip, NY
Application: Sanctuary Lighting Upgrade
Specifier & Designer: Mile Bicanic - THEA (Dark Light Design Concepts, Inc)
Location: West Islip, New York
Efficient Modernization Within Existing Constraints
Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Islip, New York, completed a lighting upgrade focused on improving illumination quality while preserving the existing electrical infrastructure. The project was designed as a one-for-one fixture replacement, with no changes permitted to fixture locations or wiring.
The Challenge: Improve Performance Without Alterations
The church required higher light levels and improved uniformity throughout the sanctuary while adhering to strict limitations:
-
No relocating, adding, or removing fixtures
-
Use of existing wiring and mounting locations
-
Reduction of shadows and dark areas
These constraints demanded a solution that maximized performance from each existing fixture position.
The Solution: Optimized Output and Beam Control
LITON fixtures were selected for their higher lumen output and controlled beam distribution, allowing the design to achieve improved light levels and more consistent coverage using the existing layout. The fixtures integrated seamlessly with the church’s infrastructure, enabling a clean and efficient installation.
Results: Brighter, More Uniform Illumination
The completed upgrade delivered a noticeable improvement in brightness and visual consistency across the sanctuary, eliminating dark spots and shadows without altering the original layout. The project met performance goals while minimizing disruption to the space.
